Viru Keskus`s bustling Food Hall has been offering the best culinary experiences in the city center for over two years. Designed in a food court style suitable for a European capital, the restaurant street brings together the best flavors and restaurants that Estonian cuisine has to offer, earning high praise from industry professionals.
At recent restaurant competitions, Food Hall restaurants received accolades from both industry specialists and visitors.
Among the favorites of readers from Oma Maitse and Delfi Ärileht were:
– Best Coffee: Paper Mill
– Best Pizza: Kolm Tilli
– Best Culinary Stand: Kaubamaja Toidumaailm
The best coffee provider selected by readers of Oma Maitse and Delfi Ärileht is Paper Mill coffee and roastery, which was also named the best service provider at Viru Keskus for 2024. Paper Mill’s selection is kept fresh by an unwavering passion for responsible specialty coffee. It all begins at the roastery located on Masina Street, where every coffee is the result of thoughtful decisions that take into account not only unique flavors but also environmental considerations and the well-being of coffee growers.
Their commitment to delivering a cup of ethical and top-quality coffee has met local expectations and reflected universal values, resulting in recognition from both near and far. Paper Mill has garnered attention from readers of the European Coffee Trip, who named the café Estonia’s best specialty coffee shop, barista Marien Vaga secured third place in the Latte Art Throwdown at the Tallinn Coffee Festival 2024, and Viru café manager Raul Toomi was a finalist in the Baltic Rocket Bean Coffee Triathlon, with roaster Kiril Tihyl being crowned a winner. Siim Laas, trainer and creator of the PULP series, won the Estonia Aeropress Championship 2024 and represented Estonia at the world championship in Portugal.
Of course, high-quality coffee and service need a worthy companion, which is why you will find products from Karjase Sai, named one of the readers’ favorites among bakeries by Oma Maitse and Delfi Ärileht readers. You can find Paper Mill’s coffee and Karjase pastries right at the beginning of Viru Food Hall, either by diverting from the center’s internal street or by sensing the aroma of fresh coffee and fluffy baked goods in the air.
Highlighted as the best pizza spot, Kolm Tilli pizza & pasta restaurant charms Italian cuisine enthusiasts in both Tartu and Tallinn, and at Viru Food Hall, you can enjoy pizza straight from a wood-fired oven, which brings out all the authentic flavors in one quality pizza.
The culinary stand awarded as the best is Kaubamaja Toidumaailm’s culinary stand, which is part of the completely revamped Food World, also selected as Viru Center’s best shopping environment for 2024. It is an indispensable helper for a quick lunch or delicious treats.
The nominee in the street food category from Silverspoon is the Latin American food culture representative Stereo Street Food resto at Viru Food Hall.
When thinking of the most unique food spot on Viru Food Hall, Stereo Street Food definitely comes to mind first. It was created under the guidance of Tiina Kõresoo, crowned the queen of Estonia’s pop-up restaurants. Picadillos, salmon tiradito, and adobo-marinated perch tacos are just some unforgettable flavors from the Stereo Street Food menu, which has offered visitors to the food street new and memorable experiences. According to Tiina Kõresoo, the success story of Stereo is particularly valuable to her, as every recipe and ingredient was carefully selected during her long travels and later matched with the local tastes of Estonians.
“The best culinary experiences from South America are created in the kitchens of homemakers, with deep respect for local eateries. We tried to follow the same principle in our downtown Tallinn restaurant. We source most of our raw materials directly from South America, explore the combinations of wines and flavors, and spice up Estonia’s cold weather with the richness and energy of southern tastes,” adds Tiina Kõresoo.
Silverspoon’s experienced judges awarded Stereo Street Food maximum points in seven categories: vegetarian and vegan dishes, an original menu, food quality and flavor harmony, serving and serving temperature, understanding of national cuisine, selection and quality of wines and beers, as well as price-to-quality ratio. From all of this, it can be concluded that everything at the Stereo Street Food restaurant has been thought out down to the last detail, and Stereo is one of the best choices in Tallinn’s city center to enjoy a lunch break after a long workday or a pleasant dinner. And if you find yourself at Stereo on a Friday evening, be sure to try the yukka fries with bubbles!
Not only the best restaurants but also the best chefs!
Chefs are becoming the new heroes of modern society, leading to films and enjoyable TV shows about them. Naturally, Viru Food Hall has its own star chefs! Specifically, two chefs from Viru toidutänav received special recognition at the Falstaff competition, both of whom are well-known and beloved throughout Tallinn.
F.Burger’s head chef, Dmitri Fomenko, was recognized as a true innovator in the fast-food restaurant scene! Under Dmitri’s leadership, all à la carte dishes are prepared, offering unique burgers such as trout-avocado-wakame or portobello mushroom with goat cheese and apple sauce. The restaurant located in the shopping center’s food street also offers the option to reserve a table, making the visit even more convenient. And it could hardly be any other way — all the tables around F.Burger, situated in the heart of the food street, are in high demand, because in addition to incredible flavors, visitors can see a top chef at work, enjoy a chat with the pleasant team, and sip on refreshing homemade lemonades.
“We are, of course, very flattered that our work has been recognized and highly praised,” said Dmitri Fomenko. “At F.Burger, every detail is focused on, from the fresh brioche to the best cheeses and original sauces — the burgers are crafted for true burger enthusiasts,” Fomenko added.
Once again, Stereo Street Food was also noted at the Falstaff competition, achieving recognition among Estonia’s best restaurants with a score of 81 out of 100.
Falstaff’s characterization reads: “Stereo Street Food – Tiina Kõresoo’s lifestyle restaurant. Exotic flavors and an authentic street food experience not found elsewhere in Estonia. Tiina draws inspiration from her travels, offering visitors unforgettable taste experiences.”
We are proud of the achievements of our eateries! Come and enjoy the award-winning flavors at Viru Food Hall.
