Black Friday is traditionally a day of high consumption, filled with discounts, temptations and emotional purchases. However, it can also be a great opportunity to make thoughtful and long-term investments to your outfits.
Viru Keskus encourages you to think of Black Friday as an opportunity to design a higher quality and more sustainable wardrobe.
Ask yourself if the item fits into your existing attire and if you can see yourself wearing it for dozens of times. A garment that seems more expensive may be cheaper in the long run if you calculate the price per wear.
Quality items fit well, last for years, can be repaired and are easier to resell or donate
Look at the seams and finish. Straight stitches, proper seam allowance, collars and edges that hold their shape indicate professional craftsmanship.
Check the material. Natural fibers, such as linen, cotton or tencel, are breathable, comfortable and long-lasting. Synthetics can be functional, but it’s worth choosing them consciously, preferring recycled and certified options.
Tip! When heading into the winter season, look for wool, alpaca and cashmere on the labels of coats, sweaters, hats, scarves and gloves. The price tag may be higher, but you’ll understand why as soon as you put them on – they keep you warm, don’t make you sweat and last for several seasons.
Don’t forget the details. Strong buttons and zippers, properly attached lining, clear care and fiber content labels indicate that the manufacturer values quality and transparency.
Clothing labels can indicate sustainability, but not all of them are equally reliable.
